SHOW YOUR LOVE

Every Valentine evening I spend on a march to show my support for girls and women who have disappeared or have been murdered. It is a very big native problem especially in northern Ontario, the west and the prairies. But it also effects all levels of social classes, no one is exempt This march is organized by CKUT, the radio station at Concordia. Last year it was an activity with PLAISIIRS, we were several participants, Melissa l’intervanant, Dodo, the gang from PAQ, Liam social worker, the drummers from WAMPAM. I have participated on this march for 4 years now; it is a sombre reminder of racism, addiction, sexual violence inflicted on the weak, namely the female sex. I work as une ‘Messager de Rue’ and just at the peep show establishments I see the girls working for their drugs, desperation makes them put themselves in dangerous situations, work for practically nothing, they are taken advantage of and abuse is part of the norm. Often these are the girls that go missing. Abuse gets out of hand and life is not in high regard, almost considered disposable. What is so sad is that the girls don’t regard themselves worthy If you want to SHOW YOUR LOVE the march is convening at parc Emily Gamelin at 6:00h pm, they will be serving hot chocolate to warm people up. So show your support and LOVE for Valentine day, I can’t think of a better way to spend the evening. See you there!” Karen
